11-Year-Old Child Slain in Drive-by Shooting at Baseball Stadium

(PatriotWise.com) — Last Thursday, police arrested two men in connection with the fatal drive-by shooting of an 11-year-old that prompted New Mexico Governor Lujan Grisham to enact an unconstitutional gun ban in Albuquerque, CBS News reported.

Jose Romero, 22, and Nathen Garley, 21, were charged in the shooting death of 11-year-old Froylan Villegas, who was killed as his family was driving away from the city’s minor league baseball park earlier this month.

According to Albuquerque Police Chief Harold Medina, Romero was arrested last Thursday outside of a convenience store in Albuquerque.

Garley had been arrested the week before during a traffic stop after State Police found about 100,000 doses of fentanyl in his vehicle, according to State Police Chief Troy Weisler.

Froylan Villegas was killed shortly after he left the Isotopes minor league ballpark with his family on September 6 in what police describe as a case of mistaken identity.

Two days later, Governor Grisham cited Villegas’ murder along with the shooting deaths of two other children earlier this summer when she attempted to temporarily suspend the state’s open-carry and conceal-carry laws within Bernalillo County, where Albuquerque is located.

According to police, Villegas was killed after an ongoing feud between Romero and an unnamed man was reignited when they saw each other at the Isotopes’ game. The unidentified man is seen on surveillance footage of the parking lot driving his Dodge pickup past the Villegas’ vehicle, which was also a Dodge pickup.

When the Villegas family left the parking lot shortly after the unnamed man, Romero and Garley drove alongside them. A passenger emerged through the sunroof and fired into the Villegas’ vehicle.

Chief Medina told reporters on Thursday that the police believe that the suspects confused the two pickup trucks and fired into the wrong vehicle, killing 11-year-old Froylan.

The day after the shooting, the unnamed man sent Romero an Instagram message telling him that they shot up the wrong truck, according to the police.
