(PatriotWise.com)- The Associated Press reports that a recent airstrike, orchestrated by a Saudi-led coalition, mistakenly hit a camp of pro-government Yemeni forces. The tragic mistake resulted in the death of at least 12 troops.
The Yemeni military announced that that the accident took place on Thursday, and that a further eight Yemeni troops were injured by the strike. It occurred in the Shabwa province. Officials only revealed the incident on the condition of anonymity and explained how that they had not been authorized to brief the media on the incident.
No comment has been offered by the Saudi-led coalition, and a spokesman for the coalition – Turki al-Maliki – didn’t respond to requests for comment from members of the press.
The war in Yemen has been raging since 2014. The Houthi rebels, supported by Iran, took control of the capital city Sanaa, as well as huge swathes of the country’s northern regions. A year leader, a coalition of forces led by Saudi Arabia stopped the rebels and restored the official government, but the war continues to rage and, sadly, accidents like this happen.
