An 11-Year-Old Girl Is Accused of Threatening To Kill Classmate

(PatriotWise.com) — A Florida elementary school student was arrested for allegedly threatening another student using a box cutter, the Miami Herald reported.

The Collier County Sheriff’s Office said in a news release posted on Facebook that an 11-year-old from Manatee Elementary School in Naples was accused of using a box cutter to threaten another student in the school cafeteria.

According to the arrest report obtained by NBC2, the 11-year-old, identified by NBC2 as Brihanna Martial, reportedly approached a boy from behind and poked him multiple times in the neck with a box cutter while whispering that she would kill him.

The victim attempted to flee the lunchroom. However, Martial followed him, cornering him against a window while still holding the box cutter in her hand.

Sheriff’s deputies were called after the boy reported the incident to school administrators.

Detectives with the Sheriff’s Department interviewed both Martial and the victim.

Surveillance footage from the cafeteria confirmed the boy’s account of the incident. A sheriff’s deputy with Youth Relations conducted a search of Martial and found the box cutter hidden in her waistband.

Martial was taken into custody and charged with first-degree felony aggravated battery and possession of a weapon on school grounds.

The Collier County Sheriff’s Office did not say what prompted the attack or if the victim suffered any injuries.

CBS News reported in November that police only arrested over 100 elementary school students during the 2020–2021 school year.

Data from the US Department of Education showed that fewer elementary school children were arrested compared to the 2019–2020 school year; however, this was likely due to remote learning during the pandemic lockdowns.

In 2022, CBS News reported that during the 2017–2018 school year, police arrested more than 700 elementary school students.

There were around 3,500 “referrals to law enforcement” just in elementary schools during the 2020–2021 school year. These are instances when a student is reported to the police but no arrest is made.
