(PatriotWise.com)- U.S. intelligence chiefs warned on Tuesday that Russian President Vladimir Putin is likely to “double down” on his wildly unpopular invasion of Ukraine, rather than withdrawing. Russia has already lost more troops in Ukraine than the United States did in 20 years in Afghanistan, and Putin is seemingly aware that continuing to send in more troops to die in the streets of Kiev could ultimately prove to be a disaster.
That’s why intelligence chiefs believe that Putin could double down by using biological or chemical weapons.
“I think Putin is angry and frustrated right now,” CIA Director William Burns said. “He’s likely to double down and try to grind down the Ukrainian military with no regard for civilian casualties.”
The comments were made during a hearing with the House Intelligence Committee, in which various leaders of American government agencies offered their assessment of Russia’s invasion of Ukraine.
Burns added that Putin currently has no sustainable political end game in the face of what continues to be “fierce resistance from Ukrainians.”
With thousands of troops dead, Putin is going to have to come up with something new.
That’s why the Russian president has already welcomed 16,000 volunteer fighters from Syria, and is reportedly requesting military support from China.
If China gets involved with this war, it could make life easier for the Russians – but it would also likely prompt sanctions on China from the United States and Europe, causing major global disruption to supply chains.
Are we on the brink of WWIII?
