(PatriotWise.com) – President Joe Biden’s handling of classified information is the focus of Special Counsel Robert Hur, one of the Justice Department employees with knowledge of the Russia hoax against former President Donald Trump, appointed Thursday by Attorney General Merrick Garland.
Hur is a former Justice Department official who handled, participated in, or has personal knowledge of the FBI’s relationship and communications with Christopher Steele, the author of the infamous dossier that served as the foundation for the Russia hoax, according to a Justice Department document.
After graduating from Harvard and Stanford, Hur started his career as a clerk for the late Chief Justice William Rehnquist. Hur was subsequently employed as the senior associate deputy attorney general, acting as Rod J. Rosenstein’s top aide throughout President Donald Trump’s tenure as attorney general. Before that, he served as Christopher A. Wray’s special assistant, who later became the FBI director and oversaw the criminal division of the Justice Department, according to the Washington Post.
Rosenstein appointed Hur, who praised him for having “experience and judgment [that] will advance our efforts to deter crime, promote the rule of law, and provide fair justice for everyone” in a news release announcing the appointment.
Trump proposed Hur as his choice to lead the Maryland U.S. Attorney’s Office in 2018. In March of that year, the Senate unanimously confirmed Hur.
Hur “brought and settled charges for corruption and/or fraud against scores of elected politicians, public office holders, and public workers” at the Maryland U.S. Attorney’s Office, according to the Justice Department’s press statement.
The Maryland U.S. Attorney’s Office was allegedly one of the busiest in the country during Hur’s tenure there. Hur brought charges against a former contractor for the National Security Agency who was accused of stealing sensitive information from the federal government. According to reports, the heist was the biggest secret information breach in American history.
Hur joined Gibson, Dunn & Crutcher, which deals with white-collar crime and regulatory challenges, in 2021.
