Britney Spears Court Case Returns

( If you thought Britney Spears’ fight to break free from her conservatorship was over, think again. Just three weeks after Spears appeared in court and pleaded for the judge to let her live her life and make her own decisions, and those pleas were rejected, she is expected to once again appear in court to make her case again.

The 39-year-old pop legends from the ‘90s is trying to put an end to the 13-year conservatorship that was put in place when she had a very public emotional breakdown in 2008. But even after years of healing, therapy, and being largely out of the spotlight, her father and the courts don’t seem to think she deserves to control her own destiny.

The Spears case will go back to a Los Angeles Court on Wednesday, after Spears claimed that she was being stopped from marrying, from having more children or even choosing her own lawyer.

The required legal documents to end the conservatorship have not technically been filed yet, but the fact that her court-appointed lawyer Samuel Ingham quit last week after Spears spoke out against him means that it could happen in the future…assuming her next lawyer is more willing to play ball.

Doesn’t it feel as though something kind of nefarious is going on here? Why can’t Spears take control of her own life, and why is the court so determined to stop her from choosing her own lawyer?

The American Civil Liberties Union has filed legal documents in support of Spears’ mission to take back her life.

Jodi Montgomery, who is responsible for caring for Spears, said in a court filing from last week that Jamie Spears, the singer’s father, has used media attacks and “finger pointing” to maintain the conservatorship rather than working with his daughter productively.

Could this be the next step in Britney Spears returning to the public sphere? Or could the end of her conservatorship just allow her to retire in peace?
