“Chiefsaholic” Football Fan Cops to Double Life as Busy Bank Robber

(PatriotWise.com) — The Kansas City Chiefs fan indicted last year for a string of bank robberies pleaded guilty last Wednesday in federal court, the Associated Press reported.

Xaviar Michael Babudar, who went by the nickname “ChiefsAholic” on social media, pleaded guilty to money laundering and transporting stolen property across state lines, according to a statement from US Attorney for the Western District of Missouri Teresa Moore.

Babudar also pleaded guilty to one count of bank robbery in a separate case filed in the Northern District of Oklahoma.

Babudar, 29, was indicted on 19 counts by a federal grand jury in August, including bank theft, armed robbery, transporting stolen property across state lines, and money laundering.

The Chiefs’ “superfan” was a popular social media figure for his support for the NFL team whose games he attended dressed in a gray wolf costume in Kansas City Chiefs clothing.

Babudar initially pleaded not guilty to the 19 charges.

According to court documents, Babudar was linked to six robberies and accused of stealing over $845,000. He laundered the stolen cash by purchasing and redeeming over a million dollars in casino chips in Missouri, Illinois, and Kansas.

In addition to pleading guilty to two bank robberies, as part of his plea agreement, Babudar also had to admit to robbing or attempting to rob nine additional banks and credit unions in 2022.

According to US Attorney Moore, Babudar’s “violent crime spree” included robberies and attempted robberies in seven states—California, Iowa, Minnesota, Nebraska, Nevada, Oklahoma, and Tennessee—in 2022 and 2023.

As part of the plea deal, Babudar must also pay restitution of at least $532,675. He will also have to forfeit property recovered by the FBI, including his autographed painting of quarterback Patrick Mahomes.

In a statement emailed to the Kansas City Star, Babudar’s attorney, Matthew Merryman, said his client had taken responsibility for his crimes and hoped that the “Chiefs Kingdom” would “rally to his support.”

Babudar’s sentencing is scheduled for July.
