Donald Trump Reports “Total Exoneration” After Grand Jury’s Decision

( — Former US President Donald Trump has declared victory and claimed that the Special Purpose Grand Jury Final Report released on February 16th was a complete exoneration. On his Truth Social account, Trump said, “Thank you to the Special Grand Jury in the Great State of Georgia for your Patriotism & Courage. Total exoneration.”

The grand jury had been convened to investigate alleged attempts by Trump and his team to overturn the state’s results in the 2020 Presidential election. The 23-person jury began its work in May last year and interviewed 75 witnesses. It was led by Georgia resident Emily Kohrs, who has stated that there will be several people facing indictments as a result of the investigation. The names of those to be indicted have not been made public. “It’s not a short list,” Kohrs said. District Attorney Fani Willis, a Democrat, said she will make a decision soon on who will face prosecution and on what charges.

Witnesses interviewed by the grand jury included Trump’s former personal attorney Rudy Giuliani, Georgia Governor Brian Kemp, and South Carolina Senator Lindsey Graham.

Donald Trump narrowly lost the state of Georgia in the 2020 election and has insisted that voter fraud had been the cause. The grand jury has found that no fraud took place however and the subsequent investigation into the conduct of Trump’s team largely focused on a phone call between the former President and Georgia Secretary of State Brad Raffensperger in January 2021. In it, Trump told Raffensperger he needed to “find” the number of votes he needed to take the state. Trump has described the investigation as a witch hunt and continues to claim that the 2020 election was stolen. The riots on Capitol Hill on January 6th, 2021 were largely blamed on Trump’s refusal to accept the 2020 result as legitimate.

When told that Trump had declared the partial report as a total exoneration, Emily Kohrs responded by asking, “Did he really say that? Oh, that’s fantastic. That’s phenomenal. I love it.”
