Election Forecaster Says Lisa Murkowski Is Going Away
(PatriotWise.com) – According to election forecaster FiveThirtyEight, the Republicans have a 99 percent chance of holding Lisa Murkowski’s Alaska Senate seat currently, but Murkowski isn’t the odds-on favorite to win.
FiveThirtyEight gives Murkowski’s Republican challenger Kelly Tshibaka a 53 percent chance of defeating Murkowski in Alaska’s ranked-choice voting this November.
Tshibaka, who was endorsed by former President Donald Trump, is polling in a dead heat with the incumbent Murkowski in the three-way ranked-choice race that also includes Democrat candidate Patricia Chesbro.
Murkowski was challenged from the right after she voted to convict Trump during his second impeachment trial.
After she voted to convict Trump, Murkowski was censured by the Alaska Republican Party which vowed to recruit a challenger to unseat her. However, Murkowski continues to receive the backing of Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell.
Murkowski has frequently broken ranks with Senate Republicans to support Democrat legislation and has often been a reliable Republican vote for much of President Biden’s radical Left agenda.
While she has always been a weak Republican in the US Senate, the tentacles of Murkowski’s political machine within the state of Alaska stretch wide.
Lisa Murkowski began her Senate career in 2002 when her father, Governor Frank Murkowski appointed her to serve out the remainder of his own Senate term after he won his gubernatorial race.
The last time Murkowski faced a serious threat was in 2010 during the Tea Party revolution. Republican Joe Miller challenged Murkowski and defeated her in the primary. So Murkowski, falling back on her machine, ran as a write-in candidate during the 2010 general election and defeated Miller by about 10,000 votes.
Despite FiveThirtyEight giving Tshibaka the edge, the Murkowski campaign remains confident she will handily win reelection in November.
A campaign spokesman recently told Fox News that internal polling shows Murkowski beating Kelly Tshibaka by seven points. But the polling cited is two months old.
