(PatriotWise.com) — The latest so-called Twitter files released by Elon Musk reveal that Twitter workers mocked and scoffed at alerts coming from the FBI and other agencies about disinformation and foreign influence. Journalist Matt Tabibi said that an analyst from the Atlantic Council’s Digital Forensic Research lab wrote to Twitter and said, “Hi guys. Attached you will find… around 40k Twitter accounts that our researchers suspect are engaging in inauthentic behavior… and Hindu nationalism more broadly.” However, the list contained the names of 40,000 ordinary Americans with no association with Hindu nationalism.
Some of those on the list responded, with one saying, “I have no connection to any Hindu folks… Just a Reagan Republican here in CT.” Another woman, replied saying she had never been outside of the United States, while a third said, “These people are insane!” Twitter seemed to agree and Trust and Safety chief Yoel Roth replied stating he had spot-checked the highlighted accounts and virtually all of them were of ordinary people.
The head of Twitter’s threat disruption Aaron Rodericks said that the interagency Global Engagement Center (GEC) had doubled its budget by “aggressively overstating” threats on the social media platform. The GEC is hosted by the State Department and boasts partnerships with the FBI, CIA, the Department of Homeland Security, and the National Security Agency. An unidentified intelligence source has described GEC as “an incubator for the domestic disinformation complex.” The White House requested $1.186 billion for diplomatic support in 2023, which includes funding for the GEC.
Yoel Roth was also shown a so-called Chinese influence list, which contained the names of some overseas CNN reporters. He called it a total crock. He also ridiculed the notion that the GEC considers communication via the encrypted messaging tool WhatsApp to be a red flag. The organization has furthermore stated that it makes no distinction between states and individuals and considers them all to be part of the same “ecosystem.”
