(PatriotWise.com) — A California man and his son were both arrested last weekend after the son, who was only 10 years old, fatally shot another child with a stolen firearm he found stashed in his father’s vehicle, CNN reported.
In a December 30 statement on Facebook, the Sacramento County Sheriff’s Office said deputies responded to the scene of a reported shooting on Greenholme Drive at around 4:30 p.m., where they found an unresponsive 10-year-old boy lying in a parking lot and bleeding from his neck and head.
The injured boy was taken to a nearby hospital, where he was later pronounced dead.
Witnesses told deputies that the boy who shot the child ran to a nearby apartment. When deputies arrived at the apartment, they detained one adult and two juveniles without incident.
The adult was identified as Arkete Davis, 53. Also detained was Davis’ 10-year-old son, who was identified as the alleged shooter.
The boy reportedly removed a gun that was stashed in Arkete’s vehicle when he went to get his father’s cigarettes. The boy allegedly bragged about his father’s gun before he shot the victim once and ran to the apartment.
The sheriff’s office did not say how the boy knew the victim.
Detectives investigating the shooting located the gun in a nearby trashcan, where it was believed Arkete Davis had tossed it.
Davis is prohibited from legally owning or possessing a firearm. According to the sheriff’s office, the weapon recovered had been reported stolen in 2017.
Arkete Davis was charged with child endangerment, accessory after the fact, and several felony firearms charges. He is being held on $500,000 bail. His first court appearance was on Wednesday, January 3.
Davis’ 10-year-old son was also arrested on suspicion of murder. The boy was taken to the Sacramento Youth Detention Facility.
