Gaetz Says When Republicans Win the House There Will Be Real Oversight

( On Tuesday, Georgia Congresswoman Marjorie Taylor Greene released her eyewitness report on the conditions under which the January 6 detainees are being held.

The report, “Unusually Cruel,” gives an account of what she and her fellow Republican colleagues, Congressmen Matt Gaetz, Louis Gohmert, and Paul Gosar, witnessed in their inspection of the Washington DC Central Detention Facility and Central Treatment Facility.

After releasing the report, Greene, Gaetz, Gohmert, and Gosar held a press conference to discuss the treatment these mostly non-violent January 6 detainees are enduring.

Greene said the January 6 inmates are being physically abused, forced to read works of critical race theory, and subjected to racist attacks. They are denied religious services and prevented from doing basic grooming like shaving or getting their hair cut.

Worse still, Greene explained, detainees are prevented from meeting with their attorneys and are not allowed to have visitors.

Greene reminded the reporters these detainees have not been convicted of a crime, and even though many of them have no criminal history, they are being held without bail.

Greene condemned the disparity in treatment between those non-violent offenders from January 6 and the rioters who burned down businesses and attacked police during last summer’s Black Lives Matter riots.

She blasted Nancy Pelosi and the Democrats in Congress for the select committee “political witch hunt.” While she denounced the violence that occurred on January 6, Greene decried the treatment these detainees are being subjected to.

When he stepped up to the microphone, Congressman Matt Gaetz blasted FBI Director Christopher Wray, pointing out that it had been 174 days since he and his colleagues sent Wray a letter demanding to know what if any involvement the FBI had in the January 6 riot.

Highlighting Greene’s report, Gaetz said it should serve as a “guidepost” for Republican oversight in Congress when they win power. And Gaetz assured reporters that Republicans were going to take power. And when they do, they won’t be going back to the days of Paul Ryan and Trey Gowdy when there was no real oversight and subpoenas. When Republicans gain power, Gaetz said, it will “be the days of Jim Jordan, Marjorie Taylor Greene, and Dr. Gosar, and myself doing everything to get the answers to these questions.”
