(PatriotWise.com) — It appears that a portion of the youth, commonly collectively referred to as “Gen Z,” are losing their patience with the so-called “woke” ideology, and some are beginning to speak out against it.
A protest recently took place at a middle school in Massachusetts in opposition to an LGBTQ Pride celebration. Students who organized and took part in the demonstration came to school wearing red, white, and blue. They also began to chant, “My pronouns are U.S.A.!” Students also tore down Pride decorations in the school hallways.
The reason the students decided to hold a protest was they felt forced to participate in Pride activism by default, which is exclusionary by its nature. The statement they were making is that focusing on an American identity includes everyone who is an American, whether or not they are LGBTQ.
The Burlington Public Schools superintendent released a statement in response to the demonstration, stating that the district believes “in the individual dignity and humanity of each and every person” in the community, and “embrace everyone for who they are” and for what they contribute to the “larger community.”
Whether or not LGBTQ subjects and celebrations should be part of school curricula and activities is becoming a hotly debated topic in the U.S. Some parents, typically Democratic voters, believe these subjects should be taught in schools and such “identities” must be celebrated so kids who feel different will feel more comfortable. Others, typically Republicans, believe LGBTQ topics are inappropriate for schools.
Last year, GOP presidential candidate and governor of Florida, Ron DeSantis, stirred up a great deal of controversy when he signed new legislation in the Sunshine State to put more power in the hands of parents.
The legislation, which his Democratic opponents nicknamed the “Don’t Say Gay” bill, banned the teaching of LGBTQ subjects to elementary school students and only at appropriate levels for higher grades. It also aims to create an environment within schools where teachers and staff are encouraged to keep parents in the loop if their child is questioning their “gender identity.”
