Hunter Biden To Give Confidential Testimony in GOP Impeachment Probe

( — President Joe Biden’s son Hunter is scheduled to testify in a closed-door interview before the House Oversight and Judiciary Committees on February 28 after the chairmen of the committees reached an agreement with Hunter’s legal team last week, CBS News reported.

The committees had both voted on January 10 to recommend that the full House vote on a resolution holding the younger Biden in contempt of Congress for defying a previous subpoena to testify in a closed-door hearing on December 13.

However, Biden defied the subpoena and instead held a press conference outside of the US Capitol on December 13 to demand that he be allowed to testify in a public hearing.

NBC News reported that on January 12, Hunter’s lead attorney, Abbe Lowell, wrote to the Oversight and Judiciary Committees, saying that the previous subpoena was not valid since it had been issued before the full House voted to authorize an impeachment inquiry into President Joe Biden.

Lowell said in his letters that if a new subpoena was issued, Hunter’s legal team would accept it on his behalf.

The full House vote on the contempt of Congress resolution was paused after Oversight Committee Chairmen James Comer and Judiciary Committee Chairman Jim Jordan agreed to issue a new subpoena for Hunter to testify.

In a statement last Thursday, Chairmen Comer and Jordan announced that a new hearing date of February 28 had been scheduled. Hunter’s deposition will come after the committees interview several other business associates and Biden family members.

Republicans maintain that Hunter’s testimony would be critical to their investigation into whether President Biden profited from his family’s foreign business deals while he was serving as Barack Obama’s vice president.

However, the younger Biden has denied that his father was involved financially in his business ventures.

Hollywood attorney Kevin Morris, who has loaned Hunter money over the years, was interviewed in a closed-door hearing last Thursday.

Republicans allege that Morris leveraged his relationship with Hunter to gain influence and access in the Biden White House.
