(PatriotWise.com) — On Monday, the Justice Department announced that the US Attorney for the Southern District of New York was charging fugitive whistleblower Gal Luft for acting as an unregistered foreign agent, arms trafficking, violating US sanctions against Iran, and making false statements to the FBI.
Luft, an Israeli/American professor who has been a fugitive since February, is supposed to be interviewed by the House Oversight Committee as part of its investigation into the Biden family’s foreign business deals.
The New York Post obtained a video statement from Luft in which he claims that the Justice Department is trying to arrest him to keep him from testifying to the Oversight Committee.
Luft was to provide information to the Oversight Committee about payments the Biden family received from individuals with links to Chinese military intelligence.
In his video, Luft said that in 2019, he met with two SDNY prosecutors and four FBI agents and gave them evidence of the Biden family’s business dealings with the former Chinese energy company CEFC that implicated Joe Biden.
According to Luft, he heard nothing from the Justice Department until he was arrested in Cyprus in February.
Luft, who escaped arrest and has been on the run ever since, said in the video that he is afraid that if he is apprehended and extradited to the United States, he would not receive a fair trial. Luft denied the charges against him, which he described as malicious and untrue.
According to the New York Post, Oversight Committee Chair James Comer was preparing to interview Luft before he disappeared. According to Comer, despite his status as a fugitive, Luft is still considered a “potential witness” in the investigation.
In an interview with the Daily Wire, Seamus Bruner, associate director of research for the Government Accountability Institute, said while Luft’s claim that he is facing prosecution to keep him from testifying needs to be verified, it should be taken seriously.
Bruner told the Daily Wire that he found Luft “very persuasive” and “credible.”
