(PatriotWise.com) – In an op-ed at 19FortyFive, Stephen Silver suggests that former President Donald Trump’s current run for the White House may already be doomed, given the multiple criminal investigations he is facing.
In addition to the investigations that were already underway, Trump is once again under a Special Counsel probe looking into both the January 6, 2021 riot and the classified documents found at Mar-a-Lago. And unlike during the Mueller investigation, Trump no longer enjoys the immunity from prosecution he had when he was a sitting president.
Additionally, New York State Attorney General Letitia James sent criminal referrals to federal prosecutors and the Internal Revenue Service in connection to her investigation into the Trump Organization.
Meanwhile, the District Attorney in Manhattan is continuing a criminal probe into the Trump Organization.
Silver writes that there is “a very good chance” that Donald Trump might face criminal charges “in the coming months” on at least one of these ongoing investigations.
But it isn’t just the investigations that led Silver to believe that Trump’s hope of returning to the White House is doomed. There are also several indications that voters have had enough of him.
Silver notes that the 2022 Midterm elections were “widely considered a rebuke of Trump and Trumpism.”
The midterm losses were also considered a rejection of Trump’s “stolen 2020 election” obsession. Silver points out that the candidates who embraced Trump’s 2020 election rhetoric “went down in defeat.”
Meanwhile, the Democrat Governors Trump attacked, like Gretchen Whitmer in Michigan and Gavin Newsom in California were “easily” reelected, Silver writes. On the other hand, the Republican Governor seen as a possible 2024 alternative to Trump, Florida’s Ron DeSantis, won in a landslide.
Silver concludes that the American electorate “did not behave as if they are in the mood for a Trump restoration.”
While Silver admits it is wise not to underestimate Trump, at the same time, “there are many reasons to believe that it’s finally over.”
