(PatriotWise.com) — Longtime Democrat strategist James Carville last weekend warned that whether or not a third-party candidate jumps into the presidential race, Joe Biden could lose to Donald Trump, The Hill reported.
While appearing on Bill Maher’s podcast “Club Random” on Sunday, Carville said if the election comes down to a rematch between Biden and Trump, as it stands now, if a third-party “No Labels” challenger like Joe Manchin or Larry Hogan is in the race, Trump would be the favorite.
Carville warned against any third-party challengers, saying someone “better wake the f*ck up.”
The former Bill Clinton political consultant has been critical of No Labels and its effort to find a bipartisan ticket to run in 2024 if Biden and Trump are the nominees.
But even without a third-party candidate, both host Bill Maher and James Carville believe that it would be a mistake for the Democrats to stick with the 80-year-old Joe Biden.
Maher told Carville that while Joe Biden may have been the only Democrat who could defeat Trump in 2020, today he is the only Democrat “who will lose to him.”
Maher compared the push to run Biden again to Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg’s refusal to retire during the Obama presidency. He said running the 80-year-old Biden is “not a good look,” especially when any “50ish,” “not stupid woke Democrat” would be able to win.
Carville added that if the Democrats ran a presidential candidate who was under 60, they would get 55 percent of the vote.
According to a NewsNation/Decision Desk poll released on Thursday, the vast majority of respondents, 72 percent, said Biden’s age will be a factor in how they vote. Another 74 percent of respondents say they are “somewhat” or “very” concerned about the president’s cognitive decline and how it will affect his ability to serve another term in office.
