Joe Biden’s Home State Elects First Transgender State Senator

How to Participate in the Voting Process

( Delaware, the home state of Democratic presidential candidate Joe Biden, has officially elected the first-ever “transgender” candidate to the state Senate. Sarah McBride is a self-described transgender person and won the state senate race in Delaware’s District 1.

The Human Rights Campaign, a left-wing activist group, congratulated Sarah McBride on winning.

“Congratulations to our very own @SarahEMcBride on becoming the first openly transgender state senator nationwide and first trans member of Delaware’s Legislature!” the group said.

“We’re so proud of you for this historic win.”

The use of the word “openly” means that the Human Rights Campaign believes there may have been previous state senators who were transgender without telling anybody.

McBride has become the highest-ranking transgender person in the country. According to the New York Times, she is part of a “surge of transgender candidates running for office this election cycle.”

The trans candidate also spoke at the Democratic National Convention back in 2016 and made history back then by becoming the first transgender person to speak at a major-party convention in the United States.

Daughter of failed presidential candidate Hillary Clinton, Chelsea Clinton, congratulated McBride on Twitter. It was one of many high-profile endorsements for the candidate from Democrats.
