John Legend and Other Far-Left Celebs Call to DEFUND Police

( Far-left celebrities John Legend, Natalie Portman, Lizzo, and others, signed a letter calling for the defunding of the police force. Notably, every celebrity who signed the letter is rich enough to be able to afford their own private security in the event that the police force stopped existing.

A host of Hollywood celebrities joined together to sign an open letter that claims some $194 billion was spent on the police in 2017, despite the police force having “continued profiling, harassment, terror and killing of Black communities.”

The letter did not reference any of the official data showing that police officers are killed more often by black criminals that black criminals killed by police officers.

“Black communities are living in persistent fear of being killed by state authorities like police, immigration agents, or even white vigilantes who are emboldened by state actors,” the letter claims. “According to the Urban Institute, in 1977, state and local governments spent $60 billion on police and corrections. In 2017, they spent $194 billion. A 220 percent increase. Despite continued profiling, harassment, terror and killing of Black communities, local and federal decision-makers continue to invest in the police, which leaves Black people vulnerable and our communities no safer.”

The letter then goes on to call for the defunding of the police, a move that would leave millions of American citizens defenseless. It would also embolden legal gun owners, in a move that seems counter-intuitive to a left-wing organization that no doubt hates the Second Amendment too.

Arguments put forward in the letter, which was also signed by Jane Fonda, Brie Larson, and America Ferrera, include the idea that money spent on the police force would be better spent going to the “health of our elders and children” or to “neighborhood infrastructure” and “to support a vibrant Black future.”

Ultimately, the letter poses more questions than it answers. They offer no solution for dealing with criminals, they give no answers that explain how murderers and criminals could be dealt with, and if these ideas were put into place it would leave America controlled by pitchfork mobs. Remember, these pitchfork mobs are precisely the reason why America developed a judicial and police system in the first place.

And let’s not forget that everyone who signed this letter can afford private security. What about the rest of America?
