(PatriotWise.com) — Vice President Kamala Harris has said “climate mental health” is having a serious and detrimental impact on the nation’s youth. Speaking at the Aspen Ideas: Climate Conference in Miami, Florida, Harris said that young people are suffering from mental health problems caused by climate change. She said children and teenagers are worried about whether they will be alive long enough to have children, or if they have any future at all. Climate scientist Dr. Matthew M. Wielicki agrees with the Vice President but comes at it from a different angle. He said, “Climate alarmism is mental health abuse of young people. Many of my students also expressed concern about having children because the alarmists have convinced them the planet is ending. This will be the lasting legacy of climate alarmism.”
Concerns about young people’s mental health may not be misplaced but some argue it is the doomsday scenario promoted by mainstream media and politicians that is the source of the anxiety. The most famous face of the youth climate movement is Swedish activist Greta Thunberg. The 20-year-old from Stockholm has a long history of mental illness and has been hospitalized for eating disorder treatment. Thunberg has suffered from severe depression since the age of 11. A book written by her parents states that she “cried at night when she should be sleeping. She cried on her way to school. She cried in her classes and during her breaks.”
The British national broadcaster, the BBC, has coined a phrase for extreme stress in young people prompted by climate alarmism – “eco-anxiety.” One Irish teenager told the BBC that she had spent half of her 16 years worrying about the planet. Her anxiety began at the age of 8 when she was told by teachers that the polar ice caps are melting and this would result in the extinction of polar bears. Studies however reveal that the number of polar bears has increased globally every year since 2015.
