(PatriotWise.com)- Vice President Kamala Harris put the United States at risk on Tuesday when she appeared to suggest that the United States government considers Ukraine to be a member of NATO. If that was true, it would mean that the United States is obligated to assist Ukraine in its defense against Russian invaders.
It would also be an escalation in Russian President Vladimir Putin’s eyes, making the United States a potential target of military action from the Russians.
“When I was in Poland, I met with U.S. and Polish service members, thanking them for standing with our NATO allies for freedom, peace, and security,” Harris said in a now-deleted tweet.
This is the kicker though:
“The United States stands firmly with the Ukrainian people in defense of the NATO alliance,” she said.
Oh, dear.
It seems to suggest that Harris thinks Ukraine is a member of NATO – a message that the United States absolutely does not want to send to Russia given that the entire reason Russia invaded Ukraine is that he didn’t want the country to join the Western political bloc.
The post was deleted and a representative of Harris’ office insisted that it was written by a member of staff at the DNC, and that they simply missed out the word “and”.
According to the statement, the tweet should have read:
“The United States stands firmly with the Ukrainian people and in defense of the NATO alliance.”
But even if that was true, however, Harris herself has made very similar comments…in person.
“Russia’s invasion threatens not just Ukraine’s democracy, it threatens democracy and security across Europe,” the vice president said at the DNC winter meeting in Washington, D.C. “So I will say what I know we all say, and I will say over and over again: The United States stands firmly with the Ukrainian people in defense of the NATO alliance.”
Does Kamala Harris think that Ukraine is a member of NATO?
