Mitt Romney Claims Capitol Protest Chaos Was “Insurrection” Despite Facts

(PatriotWise.com)- So-called “Republican” Senator Mitt Romney said last week that the January 6 riot at the U.S. Capitol Building, which was attended by left-wing and right-wing activists (as well as a CNN reporter), was an “insurrection against the Constitution.”

The comments come as Republicans and Democrats hash out a deal on House Speaker Nancy Pelosi’s plan for a 9/11-style Commission to find the “truth” about the origins of the riot, despite FBI officials having already disproven claims that there were “kill/capture” teams targeting politicians.

Senator Romney made the claim during an interview with HuffPost on Thursday, describing the events of the day.

“I was there,” he said.

So?

“What happened was a violent effort to interfere with and prevent the constitutional order of installing a new president,” he claimed, repeating the same claims made by Democrats who falsely accused President Donald Trump of inciting violence that day.

“As such, it was an insurrection against the Constitution that resulted in severe property damage, severe injuries and death,” he continued.

He didn’t mention that one of the people who died was a veteran names Ashli Babbitt, who was shot by a law enforcement officer despite committing no violent crime.

Romney voted to convict former President Trump for inciting the insurrection on January 6, but Trump was ultimately acquitted following the trial after Democrats failed to show evidence that he did such a thing. The president’s attorneys proved beyond reasonable doubt that he actively discouraged violence that day.

Speaker Pelosi could be on the verge of getting her 9/11-style commission to “investigate” the “truth” behind the riots, with Republicans reportedly considering the plans so long as there is an equal number of Republicans and Democrats on the commission’s panel.

However, should some of those Republicans include anti-Trump ideologues, it could easily be weighted against the truth and in favor of false narratives about Trump. And, either way, it would allow Democrats an opportunity to constantly revive the false claim that President Trump incited riots.

How can this possibly end well?
