(PatriotWise.com)- The Obama family is moving their podcast over to Amazon, as part of a multi-million-dollar deal that will leave behind Spotify.
Former President Barack Obama and First Lady Michelle Obama announced back in April that they would be walking away from the exclusive contract they had with Spotify for their podcast company “Higher Ground.” At the time, they were apparently in search of a larger deal that would pay them more.
Now, it’s been revealed that Amazon is that bigger deal.
Higher Ground, which is the production company owned by the Obamas, consistently disagreed with Spotify’s content strategy, which was one of the main reasons why they parted ways with the company earlier in the year.
The two sides had originally come to an agreement on an exclusive contract in 2019. That allowed Higher Ground to produce various podcasts that were then released under Spotify’s name.
But, the Obamas were on the lookout for a new partner that would allow them to reach a much wider fan base while also allowing them to reduce the amount of time they have to spend on the project.
As part of the new agreement with Amazon, Audible will be the host platform for their podcasts. The company will help the Obamas not only distribute but produce the shows they have.
On Tuesday, the Obamas released a statement regarding the new agreement. In it, Barack said:
“At Higher Ground, we have always sought to lift up voices that deserve to be heard — and Audible is invested in realizing that vision alongside us … I’m looking forward to partnering with them to tell stories that not only entertain but also inspire.”
In that same statement, Michelle said:
“Together, we will keep striving to tell compelling, provocative, and soulful stories — while doing everything we can to make sure they reach folks who need to hear them.”
The Obamas took a few years following their time in the White House to sit back and stay on the sidelines. Over the last few years, they’ve started to get involved again in the spotlight, though they have largely remained out of being directly involved with politics.
Instead, they’ve taken the approach of trying to better the world as a whole with awareness efforts — while making boat loads of money in the process.
This new deal with Amazon will surely help their company Higher Ground achieve even more, with the distribution power and huge audience that Audible brings to the table. Details of the contract were not made public, but it’s sure to be quite the lucrative deal for the Obamas.
In announcing the new partnership, the founder of Audible, Don Katz, said he was excited for the new venture, saying:
“We are thrilled to welcome two of the most profound voices of moral and intellectual leadership of our times into the Audible fold, and to be able to elevate President and Mrs. Obama’s singular ability to provide hope and uplifting guidance — needed now more than ever — through their voices.”
