(PatriotWise.com) — New York Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez reacted with fury to Donald Trump’s sit-down interview with CNN. An angry Ocasio-Cortez said the discussion had placed an abuse victim at risk in front of a national audience. She added that CNN gave Trump free rein to spread “disinformation” for higher ratings.
“This falls squarely on CNN. Everyone here saw exactly what was going to happen. Instead, they put a sexual abuse victim in harm’s way for views,” she said.
During his interview with Kaitlin Collins, the former President responded to questions about a New York civil trial that found him liable for assaulting and defaming E. Jean Carroll. The author accuses Trump of raping her at a New York department store in the 1990s. Trump denies the allegation and wrote a post on his Truth social account saying he does not know Carroll and she has fabricated the story.
A New York jury determined that Carroll had told the truth and therefore Trump had defamed her. The court ordered him to pay $5 million in compensation. The former President said he intends to appeal the verdict.
Jean Carroll said she may sue Mr. Trump again. She told the New York Times that Trump’s remarks were “just stupid, it’s just disgusting, vile, foul, it wounds people.” Her lawyer said the option of filing another lawsuit against the billionaire was “on the table.”
CNN defended its decision to host Trump, saying it was its duty to hold the powerful to account. The interview took place in New Hampshire, where the first primaries will be held. Collins introduced Trump to a standing ovation from an audience composed exclusively of Republicans or Republican-leaning independents. He enjoyed a warm welcome and several rounds of applause.
Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez is a long-time critic of Trump. In April, she said she would shed no tears about the 34 felony counts faced by the former President in New York. She referred to Trump as a “Florida man” who is no longer a fellow New Yorker.
