Pelosi knelt for George Floyd in Congress but refused to read names of US military killed in Afghanistan

( Last Tuesday, Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi refused to even consider allowing House Republicans to publicly read the names of the 13 US service members killed in the terrorist attack in Kabul. This is the woman who in June 2020 led Congressional Democrats in a performative display of kneeling in honor of George Floyd – complete with African kente cloths around their necks.

But for this woman, offering a public acknowledgement of the sacrifice of thirteen US service members in Kabul wasn’t worth her time.

Speaking with The Floridian, Congressman Brian Mast (R-FL), an Afghanistan veteran, said that Pelosi ignored the Republicans’ request to read the names into the House record. Mast said that Republican members who served in Afghanistan had asked to be recognized in order to read the names, and Democrat leaders didn’t even acknowledge them. Instead, they just “closed the House down.”

Fellow Florida Republican Carlos Gimenez accused Pelosi of trying to cover up the Afghanistan debacle by refusing to allow the names to be publicly read from the House floor. Florida Congressman Greg Steube also criticized Pelosi ignoring the request, remarking “That’s how far our nation has fallen.”

Back in January the odious Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez asked for and received from Pelosi the time required to stage a group therapy session from the House floor during which House members could share their trauma over the three-hour melee at the Capitol.

That staged struggle session was aired live on C-SPAN.

But Pelosi simply ignored a request to read off the thirteen names of those Americans who were killed in Kabul.

It really is abominable.

Then again, playing up January 6 as a dangerous “insurrection” that allegedly “traumatized” members of the House works to the Democrats’ political advantage. Whereas reading off the names of those Americans killed because of President Biden’s catastrophic withdrawal from Afghanistan does not.

At the end of the day, all that matters to Nancy Pelosi is what is politically advantageous to her party.
