Putin Won’t Guarantee Treatment Of Navalny

(PatriotWise.com)- Russian President Vladimir Putin refused to guarantee this week that his political opponent, Alexei Navalny, will ever leave prison alive. He said that “nobody should be given special treatment,” a warning that he simply won’t cave to any demands by U.S. President Joe Biden to release him or ensure that he stays alive.

Navalny was imprisoned in Russia and is widely considered to be a political prisoner. Evidence suggests that the Russian state poisoned Navalny with a nerve agent. After being put into an induced coma in a German hospital in August last year, Navalny flew back to Russia where he was arrested and thrown into prison.

Putin refused to guarantee the safety of Navalny during an interview with NBC, in which he was asked if he would ever personally ensure that Navalny leaves prison alive.

The question of whether Navalny will leave prison alive arises from the fact that Navalny uses hunger strikes to draw attention to his story, and his supporters insist that he is being denied important medical treatment from his doctor while in prison.

Putin told NBC that Navalny won’t be treated any differently than any other person in prison, and repeatedly refused to use his name, only referring to him as “that person.”

On Monday, Leonid Volkov, Navalny’s chief of staff, said it was the first time he had ever heard Putin say something honest and that the comments effectively mean that Navalny will stay in prison until either he or the Russian president dies.

During the Biden-Putin summit that was held in Geneva, Switzerland on Wednesday, President Biden pressured Putin to ensure that Navalny leaves prison alive, and threatened a response from the United States if he doesn’t….but it doesn’t sound like Putin cares very much.
