Ron DeSantis Says The IRS Is Coming For The Middle Class

During an event last week, Florida Governor Ron DeSantis warned that the increased funding and additional 87,000 new IRS agents included in the so-called Inflation Reduction Act will be used to target the middle class.

DeSantis also blasted the $700 billion tax and spend bill, arguing that it would increase, rather than reduce inflation.

DeSantis dismissed the claim that the bolstered IRS would only be targeting billionaires, arguing that there aren’t enough billionaires to necessitate hiring an additional 87,000 agents.

He noted that billionaires can afford to hire accountants and lawyers to “exploit the loopholes” Congress has placed in the tax code. He pointed out that Senate Democrats blocked an amendment to the bill that would have prevented the IRS from going after people making less than $400,000 a year.

DeSantis argued that the purpose of the IRS provisions is to go after small business owners, sole proprietors, and gig workers.
