Senator Chris Coons Confirms COVID Diagnosis

(PatriotWise.com)- Delaware Democrat Senator Chris Coons joined the ranks of COVID positive lawmakers last week.

On Thursday, Coons released a statement announcing that he tested positive for COVID the night before. While he admitted he was experiencing only “minimal symptoms,” he said he was following CDC guidelines and self-isolating.

Coons added that he and his family had canceled their Christmas travel plans and would not be gathering with family for the holidays.

The day before Coons’ announcement, the White House confirmed that a staffer who spent the previous day working with Vice President Kamala Harris tested positive for COVID that morning. Out of caution, Kamala received both the routine antigen test and a PCR test, both of which came back negative. The White House confirmed that Kamala would undergo testing again on Christmas Eve and Monday “per CDC guidance.”

Like Senator Coons, the COVID-positive staffer was fully vaccinated.

The White House also announced last week that President Biden had been in close contact with a mid-level White House staffer who later tested positive for COVID. However, in subsequent testing, President Biden remained COVID-negative.

To add insult to injury, seven members of the traveling and advance staff accompanying Deputy Defense Secretary Kathleen Hicks on a domestic trip two weeks ago tested positive for COVID last week. Hicks and members of her immediate staff all tested negative.

Over the last couple of weeks, COVID has been worming its way through the halls of Congress. House Majority Whip James Clyburn, who is over eighty, tested positive. So too did Representatives Jan Schakowsky (D-IL), Jason Crow (D-CO), Matt Cartwright (D-PA) Bobby Rush (D-IL), Barbara Lee (D-CA), and Antonio Delgado (D-NY). Senators Elizabeth Warren (D-MA) and Cory Booker (D-NJ) also tested positive the weekend before Christmas.

It’s fascinating how COVID seems to be zeroing in on Democrat politicians. The only Republican lawmaker who has tested positive in this latest surge is New York Congresswoman Nicole Malliotakis.
