(PatriotWise.com) — South Carolina Senator Tim Scott is reportedly becoming the favorite in the 2024 veepstakes, with one Trump ally suggesting that there was a “real possibility” that Scott would be the pick, NBC News reported.
The unnamed source, who has spoken with both Trump and Senator Scott, told NBC News that the South Carolina Republican would “take the job in a second.”
Several sources told NBC that Senator Scott was very interested in becoming Trump’s running mate but would not try to outmaneuver other possible contenders.
Central to Scott’s rise in the veepstakes was his enthusiastic endorsement of Trump before the New Hampshire primary and his willingness to serve as a surrogate for Trump both on television and the campaign trail.
In a recent appearance on Fox News, Trump even floated Scott as someone he had spoken to in his search for a running mate.
A source close to Senator Scott told NBC News that he has had a long standing working relationship with Trump since the former president was in office, with the two working together on criminal justice reform, opportunity zones, and increased funding for black colleges and universities.
The source added that Scott has been enjoying his role as a Trump surrogate.
In an interview with CNBC last week, the South Carolina Senator admitted that Trump has not offered him the VP slot nor has he “indicated” to him “anything” about picking Scott as his running mate.
Scott said his interest was working toward four years of low interest rates, low crime, and low inflation.
One Trump ally said Senator Scott is perceived as an asset to Trump in 2024, both on the policy side and to help undercut Democrat support among black and Hispanic men.
The source told NBC News that the senator is “compatible” with Trump and wouldn’t have a “forced” relationship.
Senator Scott is one of several Republicans suggested as a possible Trump VP pick. Others include South Dakota Governor Kristi Noem, New York Rep. Elise Stefanik, and Ohio Senator J.D. Vance.
