(PatriotWise.com)- On Friday, Tucker Carlson was outraged by Steve Bannon’s contempt of Congress conviction.
Bannon refused to cooperate with the January 6th Committee’s subpoena because he wanted executive privilege traditionally given to Democrats.
Bannon, a Trump loyalist, might get two years in prison. His sentencing is in 2022.
Carlson blasted the judge’s decision to prosecute Bannon, saying Democrats had never faced such allegations. Fox News anchor referenced Eric Holder, Obama’s attorney general. In 2012, Holder was in contempt of congress for the “gun-walking” scandal.
Holder declined to participate in congressional examinations into ATF’s “Fast and Furious” program.
US agents “lost” hundreds of illegal guns sold in Arizona, allowing them to be transferred into Mexico to target illegal gun traffickers.
Holder refused to participate in the inquiry after illicit firearms were used to murder a US border agent. He was later acquitted of any disciplinary action.
Holder claimed executive privilege. And even after a court found it didn’t apply to him, it seemed good enough to let him skate.
When Holder was initially found in contempt, he accused Republicans of “election-year politics and gamesmanship.”
Holder said he ended Fast and Furious after hearing about the “gun-walking,” but Republicans were peddling “really ludicrous conspiracy theories.”
Rep. John Dingel (D-MI) called the inquiry into Holder a “partisan political witch-hunt.”
Unlike Holder, Steve Bannon and Trump’s executive office were not accorded executive privilege.
Lois Lerner was also held in contempt of congress but later released.
Lerner was held in contempt in 2013 for refusing to help with a probe about the IRS targeting and auditing Conservative organizations. Lerner commanded the IRS section that handled tax-exempt applications but refused to help and retired.
Lerner and Holder went unpunished. Lerner escaped trial by refusing her subpoena, like Bannon. She asserted the fifth amendment when being investigated by the House Oversight & Government Reform Committee, refusing to answer questions and give over IRS information.
Tucker Carlson remarked that the January 6 committee subpoenaed Steve Bannon despite not being involved. We know because he departed the White House three years before it happened.
He offended the wrong people. Therefore, he’s facing jail.
