(PatriotWise.com)- Republican Representative Liz Cheney of Wyoming now has another member of the GOP who’s actively fighting against her as she seeks re-election.
Fox News Digital reported this week that Texas Senator Ted Cruz is endorsing Cheney’s challenger in the Wyoming GOP primary, Harriet Hageman, for her seat. He’s urging all “fellow conservatives to join” him in his quest to oust Cheney from Congress.
Talking with Fox News Digital this week, Cruz said he was “proud” to endorse Hageman for Cheney’s seat in the House of Representatives. He said:
“Harriet will be a rock-ribbed conservative congresswoman who will always defend the Constitution. She knows the importance of standing up for individual constitutional rights and fighting back against the federal government, which wants to seize more land and prevent people from being able to provide for their families.
“With Harriet in the House, Wyoming will always have a strong, principled, Constitution-loving member of Congress who will never forget who sent her there. I ask my fellow conservatives to join me in supporting Harriet Hageman’s campaign today.”
Cheney is one of 10 Republican members of the House who voted to impeach former President Donald Trump following the insurrection at the U.S. Capitol building on January 6, 2021. But, Cheney has been the most outspoken, by far, never backing down from her criticism of Trump and other members of the GOP who back him.
She is the vice chair of the House’s special committee investigating the events of January 6. That has made her a primary enemy of Trump himself, and now of other members of the GOP who back the former president.
Cheney does have the support of many of the establishment Republicans still. As the daughter of former Vice President Dick Cheney, she enjoys the support of the Bush family dynasty and many of the other old wigs in the party. But, the new wing — led by Trump and supported by Cruz — is hoping to change that.
In response to Cruz’s endorsement, Hageman said she was “honored and grateful to have the strong support of such an inspirational constitutionalist senator as Ted Cruz.” She told Fox News Digital:
“In many ways, Texas and Wyoming face the same struggles against the relentless onslaught of the federal government, and it will be nice to know that I have another ally in the other chamber when I get to Congress.”
She didn’t back down from slamming Cheney, her opponent in the upcoming Wyoming GOP primary, either. She said:
“Liz Cheney has forgotten all about us here in Wyoming as she readies for a presidential run or a commentator’s seat at CNN or MSNBC. When I am the next congresswoman from Wyoming, I will always remember who hired me for the job.”
There are many people who are looking to unseat Cheney, but Trump hand-picked Hageman as the person he’s supporting. That’s a main reason why Cruz probably joined the bandwagon as well, as the Trump supporters are looking to get on the same page to get Cheney out of Congress at all costs.
