Trump Announces Support For Congressional Candidate

(PatriotWise.com)- Former President Donald Trump has handed out yet another endorsement of a political candidate — this time to Oklahoma Representative Frank Lucas.
Lucas currently serves in the House of Representatives for Oklahoma’s 3rd Congressional District. He’s only the second politician in his state to receive an endorsement from the former president for the 2022 election cycle. Last month, Trump endorsed Governor Kevin Stitt.
In issuing his endorsement of Lucas via a statement on Monday, Trump said:
“Frank is working hard to grow our economy, encourage innovation, promote American farmers, defend the Second Amendment, and support our military and vets. Frank Lucas has my complete and total endorsement!”
Lucas has been in Congress since 1994, when he was first elected. That makes him the longest-serving member of the House who represents Oklahoma.
Following the endorsement, Lucas issued a statement of his own, in which he said:
“I’m honored to receive President Trump’s Endorsement. We’ve worked tirelessly fighting for Oklahoma’s farmers and ranchers, bolstering America’s energy independence, strengthening America’s economy, and standing up to progressive extremism.
“Thank you, Mr. President, for choosing this farmer from Cheyenne to continue our America first mission and defend Oklahoma’s values in Washington. Together, we’ll take the U.S. House away from Nancy Pelosi and stop the Biden Agenda.”
Oklahoma is considered a conservative stronghold. During both the 2016 and 2020 presidential elections, Trump captured all of Oklahoma’s 77 counties. A poll released by Amber Integrated in March revealed that 56% of all likely GOP voters in Oklahoma still held a very positive view of the former president. An additional 23% held a somewhat positive view of Trump.
Candidates for the House in Oklahoma were first allowed to file their campaigns on Wednesday of this week. That period closes on Friday. The primary will be held on June 28.
Thus far, two candidates have announced that they will challenge Lucas for his seat. State Representative Sean Roberts has announced his plans, as has Wade Burleson. The latter is the former head of the Baptist Convention of Oklahoma and is a retired pastor from Emmanuel Enid.
The 3rd Congressional District that Lucas currently represents covers a rural area of Oklahoma that includes the state’s Panhandle. It also includes a northern section of the city of Tulsa, as well as parts of the state located in both the northwest and southwest.
Oklahoma underwent redistricting last year, which resulted in this 3rd District expanding its boundaries into some sections of Oklahoma City that are considered historically Democratic.
That includes sections of the Plaza District, downtown and Will Rogers World Airport. Those sections of Oklahoma City used to be part of the state’s 5th Congressional District.
Trump continues to hand out endorsements of political candidates across the country at a record pace. He has endorsed candidates for both federal and state offices, looking to seemingly reshape nearly every aspect of politics with people who support him or his agenda.
