Trump Lawyer Says Case Against Trump Is “Dead”

(PatriotWise.com) — Donald Trump’s lawyer Lindsey Halligan said the case against the former President is “dead.” Prior to the indictment of Trump by Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg, Halligan said that the New York Democrat was altering the law in order to persecute Trump. “You can’t twist and torture the law to fit the person,” she said. She added that the DA would be better served by protecting the residents of the Big Apple from escalating crime there, and to stop using his energies to prosecute someone who does not even live in the state.

The attorney even suggested there is an element of envy in the harassment of Trump, and that the motives are entirely political. Nobody else can draw a crowd of 20,000 people, she told Newsmax host John Bachman. She also described Bragg’s office as chaotic and weak.

President Trump is the first-ever former President to face a criminal indictment. The charges are related to a payment made by Trump’s former attorney Michael Cohen to adult film actress Stormy Daniels in 2016. The payment was allegedly made to the actress in return for her silence about an affair she claimed to have had with President Trump. He denies any affair.

The actress, whose real name is Stephanie Clifford, said she had spent the night with Trump at a hotel at Lake Tahoe in 2006. She also alleged that she had been intimidated into silence and that an unknown man approached her in a parking lot in Las Vegas telling her to “leave Trump alone.” This was followed by a payment of $130,000 from the former President’s lawyer.

While it is not illegal to pay for silence, the case hinges upon whether the payment amounted to a campaign violation as it was made only a month before the Presidential election of 2016.

Michael Cohen has since turned against Trump and has testified against him. He pleaded guilty to campaign violations and said that Trump told him to make the payment in order to influence the election.
