Trump Wants To Defund Crucial State Agencies

( — Donald Trump has called on Congress to defund the Department of Justice and the FBI. The former President made the request on his Truth Social media account the day after he pleaded not guilty to several felony charges brought by the Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg. However, the call is likely to put Republicans in a difficult position. GOP Congress members have consistently urged more significant funding for law enforcement in the face of Democrat-led campaigns to defund the police.

Simultaneously, Republicans are calling for spending reductions in return for their support to raise the debt ceiling- a policy pursued by the White House.

The Manhattan DA’s charges are unrelated to the DOJ or FBI, but Trump is facing two separate investigations by the DOJ. One pertains to the discovery of classified documents at Trump’s Mar-a-Lago estate in Florida. The other investigation centers on his alleged attempts to overturn the election of President Joe Biden in 2020. Special Counsel Jack Smith, appointed by Attorney General Merrick Garland last year, leads both probes.

The Fulton County District Attorney’s Office is also investigating Trump for allegedly trying to influence the vote count in that state in the wake of his Presidential defeat.

Brad Raffensperger, Georgia’s Secretary of State, received a call from Trump asking him to “find” 11,780 votes. Raffensperger has published a book that provides a detailed transcript of the call. In it, Trump stated that it was clear that he had won the state by a substantial amount. He said there were multiple reasons why the result was fraudulent.

The first involves 250,000 – 300,000 votes that were “dropped mysteriously into the rolls.” Trump added that out-of-state voters accounted for thousands, as did voters who had already died or provided false addresses. “It’s just not possible to have lost Georgia. It’s not possible. When I heard it was close I said there’s no way. But they dropped a lot of votes in there late at night,” Trump said.
