(PatriotWise.com)- The husband of TV actress Bevin Prince died over the weekend after being struck by lightning while boating off the North Carolina coast.
William Friend, “One Tree Hill” actress Bevin Prince’s British husband, was on a boat with friends near Masonboro Island off the coast of Wilmington on Sunday when he was hit by lightning.
The New Hanover County Sheriff’s Office’s Marine Unit along with the Wilmington Police Marine Unit responded to the incident after being flagged down by those on the boat.
Deputies performed CPR on Friend as they rushed him to Bradley Creek Marina to meet the ambulance. Friend was transferred to the ambulance where they continued to try and resuscitate him for twenty minutes before pronouncing him dead.
Prince played the cheerleader Bevin Mirskey on “One Tree Hill” from 2004 to 2012. She married William Friend in May 2016.
The couple had recently relocated from New York City to Wrightsville Beach, North Carolina to be closer to family.
Friend was less than a week away from his 34th birthday.
According to the National Lightning Safety Council, William Friend was the third lightning-related death in the United States this year.
