U.S. Drone Reportedly Targeted By Iran In Newly Released Footage

Last week, the US Navy prevented an Iranian ship from capturing a US maritime drone in the Persian Gulf in what is being described as a “flagrant” and “unwarranted” incident.

According to US Naval Forces Central Command, as US forces were moving through international waters Monday night, they spotted an Iranian IRGC Navy support ship, the Shahid Baziar, towing a Saildrone Explorer unmanned surface vessel.

After the IRGC Navy ship attached a line to the drone, US forces communicated directly with the ship demanding the return of the drone.

The USS Thunderbolt, a US Navy patrol coastal ship operating nearby, immediately responded.

The Thunderbolt approached the drone while the US 5th Fleet launched an MH-60S Sea Hawk helicopter from Bahrain and positioned it above the drone. After four hours, the Iranian vessel then disconnected the line and departed the area.
