(PatriotWise.com) — American voters have said they strongly support capitalism over socialism. A Rasmussen poll of 900 electors found only 17% favor the extreme left-wing system. The number who chose capitalism as their preferred option had risen to 67% from 65% when the same survey was carried out in April 2021. Republicans were more likely to choose capitalism with 81% agreeing it is a better system. Among Democrats, that figure was 58%. Interestingly, the poll also showed that Americans believe the United States is drifting toward socialism.
The survey result comes only weeks after House Republican Rep. Maria Elvira Salazar introduced a bill calling on the House to condemn the repressive system. The Floridian Rep. said she introduced the legislation as a symbolic move and wished to see Congress confirm that the nation will never succumb to socialist values. The resolution stated that America is founded on the principle of the sanctity of the individual, and the collectivist characteristic of socialism is incompatible with the nation’s character and Constitution. The motion was passed by 328 – 86. All Republicans voted in favor, joined by 109 Democrats. A total of 86 Democrats voted against and expressed concerns that the resolution was intended to lay the foundations for reductions in funding for health and social care.
House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries (D-NY) said Republicans were backing a “fraudulent” resolution that would undermine the House Democrat agenda. At a press conference in Washington, DC, Jeffries told reporters that Republicans consider Medicare, public education, The Affordable Care Act, and the American Rescue Plan to be examples of socialism. He added that the true goal of the Republicans was to “undermine an agenda that is designed to lift up the health, safety, and well-being of the American people.”
The resolution was also condemned by California Rep. Maxine Waters, who repeated Jefferies’ claims and said the GOP was scare-mongering. Republicans dismissed the accusations stating there is nothing in the motion to undermine social care.
