Unexpected Link to China Uncovered in Gas Stove Ban Controversy

(PatriotWise.com) – A proposed gas stove ban by a federal agency could be linked to Chinese interests, according to newly-uncovered links through an American green energy company.

On January 9, 2023, U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) commissioner Richard Trumka Jr. suggested that gas stoves should be banned. The remarks came following a report from the CPSC announcing its intention to restrict the use of gas stoves.

The CPSC’s proposal arose from the idea that cooking on gas appliances contributes to indoor air pollution. Trumka suggested that any product that “can’t be made safe can be banned.” In addition, he said that the CPSC should think about creating new regulations regarding the appliances’ emissions.

Later, Trumka added that the regulations would only be imposed on new appliances, not existing ones. He reassured consumers that the CPSC wouldn’t be “coming for anyone’s gas stoves.”

After a strong consumer backlash, the CPSC was forced to walk back Trumka’s remarks and its own report.

Now, more information about the CPSC report has come to light.

The CPSC report cited research from a Colorado-based green energy company, Rocky Mountain Institute (RMI), whose December study data indicates gas stoves are linked to 13 percent of asthma cases in children.

RMI has partnered with the Chinese government in an effort to move away from the use of gas and oil across the economy. The organization calls for “systemic change and economy-wide transformation.”

In 2013, the Chinese National Development and Reform Commission worked alongside RMI to assemble a report that ultimately pushed for “clean energy” innovations in China. In 2021, the commission enforced electricity rationing among nearby provinces in an attempt to meet its energy goals.

Banning gas stoves in the US would impact almost 40 percent of the homes in the country.

Senator J.D. Vance (R-OH) has requested that the CPSC’s head provide congressional testimony regarding the report on gas stoves. Vance said that natural gas is vital for our nation’s security, and raised concerns about RMI’s ties with the Chinese government.

Vance said he believes that limiting US access to gas and oil will only benefit China in the long run.
