White House Task Force on Abortion Rights Convenes on 51st Anniversary of Roe v. Wade

(PatriotWise.com) — To mark the 51st anniversary of the Supreme Court’s Roe v. Wade decision, President Biden convened a meeting with key members of the Cabinet on Monday to discuss expanding abortion access in the United States, NBC News reported.

The meeting was the fourth time the president’s task force on “reproductive health” had convened since the Supreme Court overturned Roe v. Wade in June 2022.

In his remarks, the president attacked the Supreme Court decision, claiming that the court “ripped away” a “fundamental right.” He reiterated his remarks from June 2022 that the end of Roe would place the “health and lives of women” at risk and claimed that he had been “proven” right, adding, “They’ve been at risk.”

The president once again called on Congress to codify Roe v. Wade in federal law, saying he would sign the bill “immediately” after Congress passed it. He demanded that lawmakers “stop playing politics with women’s lives and freedom” and “let doctors do their job.”

According to the White House, the Departments of Labor, Health and Human Services, and Treasury would be issuing new guidance on expanded coverage to allow women to receive contraceptives for free under the Affordable Care Act.

Additionally, the Office of Personnel Management will provide new guidance on increasing access to contraceptives for federal workers, their family members, and federal retirees.

The Biden administration also announced a “comprehensive plan” aimed at increasing awareness about the emergency medical care required by law under the Emergency Medical Treatment and Labor Act.

The Supreme Court is currently hearing a case involving the Emergency Medical Treatment and Labor Act that the Justice Department argues should include abortion. The Court is expected to release its decision by June.

Members of the task force are to report back to the White House on the status of implementing various executive orders the president enacted to expand abortion access.

The Biden administration is expected to make statewide ballot initiatives on abortion a central part of its strategy to expand abortion.
