(PatriotWise.com) — A California woman was arrested last Tuesday after she ran naked down the San Francisco-Oakland Bay Bridge shooting a gun in the air and as passing commuters, CBS News reported.
According to the California Highway Patrol, a 911 caller reported a reckless driver with a gun on eastbound Interstate 80 around 4:40 pm on Tuesday. The driver stopped on the Bay Bridge, got out of her vehicle, and yelled at the other drivers while wielding a knife before getting back into her car.
When she later stopped again near the toll plaza, the woman exited her vehicle naked, this time wielding a gun which she began firing at other vehicles and in the air, according to the CHP.
NBC Bay Area reported on Wednesday that it obtained new video footage after the woman exited her vehicle the second time and began firing.
The video, taken by a commuter on the eastbound side shows the naked woman walking across the lanes pointing and firing her weapon at the cars passing by.
The woman was arrested and transported by ambulance to a nearby hospital.
CHP officer Andrew Barclay told NBC Bay Area that it was immediately clear that the woman was suffering “some sort of mental health crisis.”
He said the woman surrendered to highway patrol not far from the I-880 ramp and was now at a local hospital on a mental health hold.
Law enforcement is investigating what prompted the woman’s behavior and if drugs or alcohol could have been a factor. Barclay said it is likely the woman will face several charges “due to the severity of the incident.”
He told NBC Bay Area that law enforcement is waiting for the hospital to evaluate the woman and “give her the treatment and help she needs” before she is taken into custody by police.
While several vehicles were hit by gunfire, the highway patrol said no injuries were reported.
