Woman Jailed on Murder Charges Since 2022 Is Now Four Months Pregnant

(PatriotWise.com) — A Florida woman who has been behind bars since June 2022 is pregnant, and her sister and attorney are demanding answers, NBC News reported.

According to Crystal Barreto, her sister Daisy Link called on Christmas to say that she was nearly four months pregnant. Barreto, who lives in Homestead, said she was stunned by the news and immediately “concerned about Daisy and her safety.”

Link is held at the Miami-Dade County Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center, awaiting trial on second-degree murder. While in jail, Link was subsequently charged with battery by a detainee on another detainee or visitor.

According to Link’s attorney, Marlene Montaner, Link was charged with second-degree murder after firing a single shot while defending herself in a domestic violence incident in June 2022. Montaner showed NBC News photos of Link with blood on her head and shoulders that Montaner said were from injuries sustained from the abuse she endured in the days before the shooting.

Montaner and Link’s sister, Crystal, are trying to get Link placed on house arrest, especially in light of the pregnancy.

Miami-Dade Corrections and Rehabilitation Department would not comment on how Link could have gotten pregnant.

Her sister told NBC News that Link has not said what happened. She claimed that Link tried to tell “pieces of the story” when she called on Christmas but was afraid to go into detail since her calls are recorded.

According to Montaner, it is believed that another inmate got Link pregnant. The Miami-Dade County jail houses both female and male inmates on separate floors.

Montaner also thinks that the report published in another outlet that claimed Link may have gotten pregnant by a male inmate passing semen through a vent was “implausible.” Link’s sister, Crystal, also doubts the claim.

However it happened, Montaner blames Miami-Dade corrections officials. She said at the end of the day, “They are at fault for her pregnancy.”

In an emailed statement to NBC News, a spokesman for the Corrections and Rehabilitation Department said Link’s pregnancy was confirmed by its “Correctional Health Services partners” and the matter was under “active investigation.”
