Fox News Insider Says Tucker Carlson Was Fired

( — An unnamed source at Fox News said the network fired Tucker Carlson. Fox announced the popular broadcaster’s departure on April 24th and said the two parties had agreed to end his employment. The source said however, “He was totally surprised. He had no idea. It was a firing.”

Speculation is rife regarding the cause of his departure, with commentators suggesting it was related to the $787 million settlement the network reached with Dominion Voting Systems in a defamation claim. The company filed a $2.6 billion lawsuit against Fox, saying it lost business because the network implied it was involved in rigging the 2020 Presidential election. Fox initially defended the claim saying it was not endorsing Donald Trump’s view that the election was stolen, but merely reporting on it. It was therefore protected by the First Amendment.

The two parties settled immediately before the trial was due to start and Dominion described the agreement as a victory and a vindication.

The host, who boasted record-breaking viewing figures, has reportedly been offered several jobs since parting ways with Fox. The Times of San Diego said One America News, which is based in the Californian city, was set to offer Carlson $25 million to join its team. As host of Tucker Carlson Tonight, he earned $8 million a year.

Carlson enjoyed a close working relationship with a number of senior political figures on Capitol Hill. In February, Republican House Speaker Kevin McCarthy gave him 41,000 hours of previously-unseen footage from inside Capitol buildings on January 6th, 2021. Carlson published a number of clips, including those of the QAnon Shaman Jacob Chansley. The footage revealed that Chansley told the truth when he said he was walked around the buildings by uniformed police officers. He was sentenced to almost four years in prison for his role in the day’s events, but was released soon after Carlson broadcast the footage. Officials denied that the two events were connected.
