Katie Britt Fighting Fallout From Her SOTU Response

(PatriotWise.com) — Alabama Senator Katie Britt, who last week delivered the Republican response to President Biden’s State of the Union Address, faced blowback last weekend for allegedly implying in her remarks that a horrific human trafficking story she recounted occurred when Biden was in office, CBS News reported.

In her SOTU response, Britt recounted speaking with an adult woman at the southern border whom the Alabama Republican said was trafficked by cartels and subjected to horrific abuse when she was only 12 years old.

In concluding the anecdote, Britt said the US would not tolerate such things from a “third-world country” and said it was time for the country to act like the United States of America. She then blasted President Biden’s border policies, calling them a “disgrace.”

However, the woman’s trafficking story she recounted, Karla Jacinto Romero, took place when George W. Bush was president, prompting some to blast Senator Britt for implying that her tragic experience was somehow related to Joe Biden’s border policies.

Senator Britt, along with two other members of the Senate, participated in a roundtable discussion with trafficking victims, including Jacinto, while visiting the southern border last year.

In an appearance on “Fox News Sunday,” Senator Britt defended bringing up Jacinto’s story, suggesting that she had not intended to imply that her horrific experience occurred when Biden was president, noting that she made it clear in her remarks that Jacinto was much younger when she was trafficked.

Britt explained that she brought up Jacinto while comparing her first 100 days in the Senate to President Biden’s time in office and noted that she visited the southern border and heard the stories of victims. She explained that Jacinto’s story was similar to many other women’s due to President Biden’s border policies.

White House spokesman Andrew Bates blasted Britt for repeating “debunked lies” and suggested that by opposing the bipartisan border bill, she was putting drug and human smugglers ahead of US national security.
