Ted Cruz Rages At Biden Nominee Who Attacked Fox News

(PatriotWise.com) — Senator Ted Cruz (R-TX) has said Biden nominee Gigi Sohn should not sit on the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) because of her previous condemnation of Fox News. Sohn, a former employee at the FCC, has posted on Twitter that she believes Fox is a threat to democracy. At a hearing in front of the Senate Commerce Committee, Cruz told the Biden nominee that millions of Americans watch Fox News and they could not possibly trust her to be unbiased.

In a video posted on his Twitter account, Cruz said Sohn wanted to abuse government power to silence political opponents. He said she had called for the ability of the government to remove the broadcasting license of conservative outlets. “Someone who wants to abuse government power like that has no business being anywhere near governmental authority,” he said.

Sohn responded to Cruz’s criticisms saying that her previously expressed view about Fox was held in a private capacity and would not influence her work on the FCC. She added that she regrets the “tone” of her denunciation of the conservative news channel.

Pennsylvania lawyer Sohn was first nominated to the FCC by Joe Biden in 2021 and if appointed, would alter the committee in the Democrats’ favor. It currently has an empty 5th seat and is locked in a 2-2 bipartisan freeze. The Committee is responsible for regulating interstate and international communications through all mediums including television, radio, and satellite. It has jurisdiction over broadband access, fair competition, radio frequency use, media responsibility, public safety, and homeland security.

Sohn has said that she is the victim of a homophobic campaign and that she has faced 15 months of smear operations and misleading attacks on her character. “There’s a little homophobia going on here. It’s whispered around in the Senate. I like to think as a country we’re past that, but apparently we’re not,” she said.
