GOP Reps Want To Rename Dulles Airport in Honor of Trump

(PatriotWise.com) — A handful of Republican lawmakers last week introduced a far-fetched measure that seeks to rename Washington Dulles International Airport after Donald Trump, CBS News reported.

Pennsylvania Republican Rep. Guy Reschenthaler introduced HR 7845 on Friday, March 29, designating the Washington, D.C., airport “Donald J. Trump International Airport.”

Currently, six Republican lawmakers—Tennesee Rep. Charles Fleischmann, Arizona Rep. Paul Gosar, Alabama Rep. Barry Moore, Texas Rep. Troy Nehls, Tennessee Rep. Andy Ogles, and Florida Rep. Michael Waltz—have signed on as co-sponsors of the longshot bill.

Reschenthaler defended the proposed legislation in a post on X, describing Trump as “the best president in my lifetime.”

In a separate statement, the Pennsylvania Republican said for the millions of travelers that fly through the Washington airport, there would be “no better symbol of freedom, prosperity, and strength than hearing ‘Welcome to Trump International Airport’” when they arrive.

The bill has no chance of success. Even if it could pass the House, it is unlikely to receive a vote in the Democrat-controlled Senate.

It is also unlikely that the bill could clear the House now that the Republican’s slim majority has grown even slimmer in recent months after a spate of retirements, and the bill is unlikely to receive the support of every Republican that remains.

With a razor-thin House majority, a Republican bill would need the near-unanimous support of a very divided GOP conference.

Some Democrats expressed incredulity over the proposed measure.

In a post on X, outgoing Virginia Rep. Abigail Spanberger called the bill “ridiculous” and blasted the Republican-led House for focusing on renaming the Virginia airport after Trump.

Former Republican Rep. Denver Riggleman, who helped assist the House select committee investigating the January 6 riot at the Capitol, also blasted the bill on X, saying no sane Virginia lawmaker would support renaming the Virginia airport. He suggested that Republican lawmakers who are supporters of Trump should “stick to your own damn airports.”
