Israel’s “Targeted Starvation Campaign” Is Killing Gaza Children, Say UN Experts

(PatriotWise.com) – Israeli officials hit back hard this week after human rights advocates with the United Nations accused the country of carrying out a “starvation campaign” against the Palestinian civilians in Gaza.

Ten independent human rights advocates appointed by the United Nation’s Human Rights Council accused Israel of perpetuating an “intentional and targeted” campaign to starve the Palestinian people, which they described as a “form of genocidal violence” that has caused a famine in Gaza.

While the United Nations has not officially declared the conditions in Gaza to be a famine, the advocates, including Michael Fakhri, the UN’s special rapporteur on food rights, insisted that a famine was currently underway in the Gaza Strip.

The advocates, who do not officially speak on behalf of the United Nations, claimed that malnutrition has killed 34 Palestinians, most of them children, since the war began.

However, the Israeli mission to the United Nations in Geneva slammed the statement, accusing Fakhri and the rest of the “so-called ‘experts’” of being as comfortable spreading misinformation as they are perpetuating Hamas propaganda to shield the terror group from scrutiny.

The Israelis cited a recent report from the Integrated Food Security Phase Classification that determined that the predictions of famine in Gaza had been wildly overstated and no famine had materialized after access to humanitarian aid improved.

The report noted that the Israelis had continued to scale up their “coordination and assistance” to ensure that humanitarian aid was delivered throughout Gaza and accused Hamas militants of deliberately stealing humanitarian aid and hiding it from civilians.

The Israeli mission also cited the large supply of aid that has been piling up on the Gaza side of the border since agencies, including the UN’s World Food Program, have refused to distribute the aid over fears of violence and looting.

Israeli officials and IDF commanders have long argued that the human toll in Gaza is the fault of its Hamas-controlled government, which prompted the 9-month war by attacking Israel on October 7, 2023.
