Kamala Harris Becomes the First Sitting Vice President To Visit an Abortion Facility

(PatriotWise.com) — During a visit to Minnesota on Thursday, Vice President Kamala Harris toured an abortion clinic in what her office boasted was a historic first for a sitting president or vice president, CBS News reported.

The Biden reelection campaign has made abortion rights a central issue in 2024, and Harris used the visit to a St. Paul Planned Parenthood to rail against the Supreme Court’s 2022 decision to overturn Roe v. Wade, which she claimed created a “very serious health issue” in the United States.

In her remarks, Harris said she visited the St. Paul Planned Parenthood to “uplift the work” the abortion clinic did in Minnesota, describing it as an “example of what true leadership looks like.”

Democrats have long urged President Biden to use more forceful language in defense of abortion, something the vice president had no problem doing while visiting the Planned Parenthood location.

She blasted pro-life states for their attacks on a woman’s “right to make decisions” about her body, calling them “outrageous” and “plain old immoral.”

Harris decried elected officials for believing that they could “tell women what they need” or “what is in their best interests.”

The vice president declared that the United States should be a “nation that trusts women.”

In Minnesota, abortion has been enshrined in the state since 1995, following a decision by the Minnesota Supreme Court.

However, the vice president pointed out that Minnesota abortion clinics were receiving patients who traveled from other states to terminate a pregnancy, including North and South Dakota, where abortion is restricted.

Vice President Harris received a tour of the abortion clinic, where she met with staff and was briefed on how the abortion restrictions in other states have affected Minnesota.

Following her visit, the vice president was scheduled to deliver remarks at a campaign event specifically aimed at women voters.

Harris’ visit to Minnesota was part of the vice president’s national “Fight for Reproductive Freedoms” tour, an initiative coordinated by the White House as part of Biden’s reelection effort.
