Man With Parrot on Shoulder Battles Police During Traffic Stop

(PatriotWise.com) — Sheriff’s deputies in Florida on December 15 arrested an Alabama man who was found sitting in a parked vehicle with a parrot on his shoulder, The Sacramento Bee reported.

The Washington County Sheriff’s Office said in a press release that it received a report from homeowners in the early morning of December 15 of a suspicious vehicle in the road and a man pounding on their front door.

When the sheriff’s deputies arrived at the scene, they found a silver pickup truck that matched the description of the vehicle reported as being parked in the road with a man seated behind the wheel.

The man, later identified as 38-year-old Timothy Brandon Bowers of Elba, Alabama, had “a blank look on his face and a parrot on his shoulder,” the press release said. As they began speaking with Bowers, the deputies noticed multiple weapons inside the vehicle and instructed him to step out of the truck.

As they tried to get him out of the vehicle, Bowers refused to comply and began arguing with the deputies, eventually physically attacking them. The deputies used a Taser to subdue Bowers and take him into custody.

Bowers later told the sheriff’s deputies that there wasn’t anything wrong with him. Instead, he was high on psychedelic mushrooms.

Bowers was taken by Washington County EMS to a nearby hospital for an evaluation. After he was cleared, he was transferred to the Washington County Jail.

Bowers has been charged with two counts each of possession of a controlled substance and possession of drug paraphernalia, as well as charges of resisting an officer with violence, battery of a law enforcement officer, and trespassing.

According to the sheriff’s office, the parrot was not injured in the incident. It was placed in a pet carrier by Washington County Animal Control and transported away from the scene.
