(PatriotWise.com) — Just one day before President Joe Biden announced that he was dropping out of the 2024 race, Republican vice presidential nominee JD Vance suggested that if Biden was not capable of seeking reelection, then he should not remain in office for the next six months.
Vance, along with Republican nominee Donald Trump, sat down with Fox News anchor Jesse Watters on Saturday for an interview that aired Monday night in which the two discussed the ongoing chaos within the Democratic Party prompted by Biden’s alarming debate performance in late June.
When asked if his administration would investigate the cover-up surrounding President Biden’s cognitive decline, Trump said he would. The former president suggested that Biden’s condition was hidden by White House doctors who kept giving him “wonderful” medical reports and said that the American people had been lied to about the president’s condition.
When Watters asked the Republican candidates if Democrats had launched a “coup” against the president, Vance noted the “constitutional process” to remove a president and suggested that if Biden was unable to run for a second term, he was unfit to “serve as president.
He said if the Democrats wanted to “take him down” because the president is no longer mentally capable of serving, they should “invoke the 25th Amendment. He added that Democrats should not be permitted to do this in a way that benefits them politically.
Vance reiterated his position on Sunday, just hours before Biden announced on social media that he would not run for reelection.
In a post on X, Vance asked how the president could justify remaining in office if he did end his campaign.
The Ohio Republican explained that withdrawing from the race would be “a clear admission” that Biden was not “mentally fit” to serve, adding, “There is no middle ground.”
The White House posted on social media a letter from the president announcing his decision to withdraw from the race so that he could “focus solely” on serving out the final months of his term.
In a follow-up post, Biden offered his “full support and endorsement” to Vice President Kamala Harris for the Democratic nomination.
